Story from a letter
In respect to the former Prime Minister Vo Van Kiet | |
![]() | I’m pleased to know that Saigon SunBay started construction at Can Gio which was a famous Sac Forest Army Base. The history of this area represents the energy of the people. To who it may concern, we will never forget that this base was destroyed by lethal weapons and toxic chemicals by the Americans. When the war was over, this area’s resources became exhausted by contamination. But now, the good news is with people’s intelligence and hard work, this area has made dramatic recovery and now has become an ecological forest with a diversified ecosystem. Nowadays, we need to meet the ever increasing demands of society which include improving the environment and creating better jobs. One way to do this is to develop Saigon SunBay built on landfill. This will allow an improvement in Can Gio’s sea water and mangrove forest which has been vigorously supported since the beginning. We cannot talk about the potential for tourism in Can Gio Sac Forest Army Base without mentioning Cu Chi Tunnels. Located at the Eastern – Western region of Saigon, these two war zones are in totally different types of terrain. Due to these differences, tourist areas at these war zones appear to attract people from Vietnam and oversea. Visitors to Cu Chi Tunnel could never imagine a war fought on water with Sac Forest commandoes. Likewise, visitors from the Sac Forest Army Base could never imagine a land war in the Cu Chi tunnels, fought by guerillas. If properly organized, we can cooperate together and offer a better service to attract more tourists who want to visit these historical places. I hope that in the form of a modern ecological tourist city, Saigon SunBay will be a pioneer that creates an important landmark for the future of Can Gio. In conclusion, Can Gio will be known not only as a famous historical army base but also as a high quality seaside city to serve residents as well as tourists. |
